Heathergem Jewellery is fast becoming known throughout the world for the unique way it is made and for its beauty.Heathergems are made from the stems of the Scottish Heather, they are dried and bunched together before being compressed into a block - eighty tons of pressure is required to press the block together. The block is then cut into slices, shaped, polished and lacquered to give the final finish. The pieces are then set into silver and pewter fittings. Celtic designs are used for the fittings dating back to the time of St.Columba and the start of Christianity in Scotland. The only heather used is at the end of its life, and when picked makes way for the young new shoots to sprout.
